Altrusa’s fashion show once raised $7,200 for the Whakatipu Youth Trust in a single night at the Queenstown Country Club, and the trust put that money toward fitting out The Hub at Remarkables Park. The club will be having another go tomorrow night, Tuesday 20 October, with Central Lakes Family Services as this year’s cause.
- When: Tuesday 20 October, 7pm till 10:30pm.
- Where: Arvida Queenstown Country Club, Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway.
- Tickets: events.humanitix.com/altrusa.

“Tickets sell out for this event each year, so don’t delay!” is how Altrusa put it on the ticket page, and going by past years they wouldn’t be stretching it much. Anyone hoping to just turn up and pay at the door could well miss out.
Local Shops Usually Dress The Runway
Altrusa has been putting on a spring show in the Wakatipu for a long while now, long enough that some will remember it running on a Sunday afternoon at the Coronet Hotel up at Arthur’s Point, with club members doing the modelling themselves, afternoon tea laid on and tickets going for $25 over the phone, and Julie Walker, who headed the organising committee back then, told the ODT it was “designed for the local ladies,” which is still pretty much the feel of it even though it has moved to an evening at the Country Club, where the clothes have come from Angel Divine, Outside Sports, Wallace & Gibbs, Mr.Davis Menswear and Social Clothing.
Which shops are on the runway this year hasn’t been put out yet, so it might be a few of the same names or a fresh lot.
Why Central Lakes Family Services Matters Here
Most people around Queenstown will know CLFS, or know someone who has leaned on them. They run the Women’s Refuge and family violence support in the district, the 24 hour duty phone, parenting and antenatal programmes, and counselling for kids and teenagers, and they don’t charge for any of it.
Free services still have to be paid for by somebody, and a full room on a Tuesday night would go some way toward that.
The Rest Of Altrusa’s Year
The fashion show sits alongside a haberdashery sale, a quiz night and a golf tournament on the club’s calendar. Money from all four goes back out into the community, including the book Altrusa gives to every baby born in the Wakatipu.
Whether this year’s total beats the $7,200 from that earlier Country Club show should be up on the Altrusa Queenstown Facebook page later in the week.
