There’s a Sleeping Beauty show coming to Toronto where the dancers glow in the dark. It’s called Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty in a Sparkling Show, and it’s on at the Young People’s Theatre on Sunday, 21 February 2027.
The show runs an hour, no intermission, and once it starts you’re locked in until the end, no coming or going. Cristian Pérez choreographed it along with María Farelo and a company called Luma Artistas S.L. Six Toronto dancers round out the cast alongside them. The costumes are the whole point really, they’re built to light up as the dancers move, so the ballet itself stays classical but the visual is something else.
It’s at 165 Front Street East, M5A 3Z4. There’s more than one date and more than one time slot on the 21st, so you pick your specific slot when you buy tickets rather than there being one set showtime. Doors open half an hour before whichever slot you’ve picked. They’re saying five and up for age recommendation.
A few practical things worth knowing. Seats aren’t assigned, first come first served within whatever zone you’re in, so turning up right at doors instead of a bit after actually makes a difference. The theatre’s wheelchair accessible. And since there’s no intermission and they don’t let latecomers in, sort the bathroom out before doors, not during.
